Hydrow: Start Here

While following conversations online, it seems there is some confusion as to how/where to get started. I see three starting points:

    1. Learn to Row“.  A series of three lessons that teaches technique and form.
    2. Recommended for You” on the home screen
    3. Beginner Training Camp” Scroll the home screen up. You will see four ‘programs’. One of them is Beginner Training Camp

My recommendation is to do the three Learn to Row sessions, and then start the Beginner Training Camp.

Hydrow offers personal coaching sessions for a small fee (1 for $59). I booked a personal coaching session after my third traiing camp row to get some professional advice on my technique/form.  It was very helpful.

I bought a Hydrow

I bought a Hydrow. For those who don’t know what it is, it is a high-end rowing machine. It is connected to the internet and has a 22-inch flat screen monitor. It is awesome. (When you call their Support number, the support person ends the call with “See you on the water.”)

I turned 68 years old a couple of weeks ago. I retired and moved up here to the central highlands of Arizona about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, I’ve been getting very little exercise despite Being out in the country with plenty of hiking trails etc. I’ve gotten soft. really soft and lazy.

When I saw the Hydrow I knew that it was the answer. Imagine being out on the Charles River or Lake Roosevelt, rowing with your teammate/coach in front of you setting the pace, giving you tips, and giving you encouragement. I forget that I’m in my office. I’m out on the water. It’s awesome. I haven’t gotten this much enjoyment from exercise since playing ice hockey 25 years ago. And the other cool thing is that the Hydrow is sitting right behind me right now. I don’t have to drive 35 miles to the lake. I can incorporate rowing into my daily routine.

I ordered it online. Two guys in a big truck drove all the way up from Phoenix (about an hour). They unpacked it and set it up in my office. Needless to say, I tipped them well.

This morning was session 2 on the hydrow. It was only 15minutes along, but it gave me a buzz.

See you on the water.
